Let me first start by detailing the positives. Pow Wow is situated on some excellent real estate. Seriously prime choice. Great access to the lake, the water is perfect for kids and people who are feeling more adventurous. Lots of walking paths to just meander about, a somewhat functional tennis court, and the rooms are decent - - just don't use the electrical outlets EVER. We stayed in one of the suites. Two bed rooms, a small kitchen and dining table, a tv/entertainment area, and a seriously awesome hottub room complete with wood walls and sliding door. I shudder at the thought of how clean that tub could have actually been, but it was downright awesome climbing in for a private dip after a swim in the lake. The living room had a nice veranda and view too. My aunt's room was not similarly equipped but thank goodness, because if they so much as sneezed near an outlet, the power for their whole villa would go out. It happened about 12 times over the course of 3 days. But Pow Wow loses marks on where it counts most. We were treated to what can only be described as complete lunacy in regards to food and service. The girls who cleaned the rooms? Stellar. The guys who maintained the property? Flawless. But the kitchen staff and top management was a disaster! Yes you could tell it felt like a small family run lodge, but I've been to plenty of those before and had unforgettable memories.Let's start with the kitchen. They must have been bleeding funds because the one place you can tell if a resort is successful is in their food. The portions? Laughable. The service? Uncaring and slow. Breakfast service and dinner service were equally horrible. It got to the point where we would all joke that we were going to get our morning and evening appetizers before going into town and buying groceries for a real meal. Example 1:Me (smiling): "Hey my younger cousin (she was 9) only got 2 pieces of bacon, and everyone around else had plenty more. I don't wanna make a fuss. Could you just bring a small plate of extra bacon for the table? Waitress (indifferent): "Yeah ill check".................."Sorry were all out. Heres 2 pieces." ...as she slaps down a side plate of 2 more bacon strips that were burnt to elemental carbon)That night at dinner...Me: "Hey my portion of 2 chicken strips and 7 fries wasn't really filling. Could I ...wait...i think three other people are asking for extra too. Could you swing that?"Waitress: "Maybe I dunno?".........."Yeah were all out. We can make you the kids menu pizzas if you guys are really hungry."Were not even big eaters! Mind you, one of our family friends is 6'5", but were all very active--swimming, paddleboats, golfing, tennis all day. You work up quite the appetite...and one of our family members just hit 13...he's gonna eat anything you put infront of him and still be hungry. It just felt cheap. Like you were a nuisance for being hungry. Its like they had a food quota to hold and if they dared go over, the waitresses and chefs would get scolded. Which is probably the case. As the second deal-breaker came with the owner. We were travelling with said family friends, and they brought their mother along. Shes well into her 60's. The knitting grandma type, the one who smiles at everyone and rarely makes a fuss.. happy to get a hug from her grandkids etc.. Well, said owner accused Grams of "littering the room with peach pits" and us being rude to the wait staff. PEACH PITS?!? RUDE?! You're saying this 60+ year old woman ate a bushel of peaches and just decided to throw them around the room for laughs? Asking for another chicken finger is really pushing your waitstaff to the limit?! Its just absurd how this owner treated us and our family. As we were leaving he had the audacity to call us ungrateful and got his last words in..."You guys are never welcome back here."Don't worry buddy, were not in any hurry to book again.

Private cottages now

Food: 3.0 / portion size was small / taste was good but not outstanding.Cabin: 3.5 / we had a very comfortable king bed in our bedroom and a pullout for my daughter in the living-room. The water on the first morning was luke warm at best but it improved on the second day. The bar fridge was cold. The water was drinkable.Service: dining was very good, food delivery was in good time, friendly servers, front desk staff were friendly and offered advice on local things to do. (although a burned out light bulb left beside a lamp went unreplaced for 2 days). The road in is rough and the lodge and boathouses need repairs leading me to believe that money is tight. The bonfire that was only used once in 3 nights. Overall we had a good time (except for the power outage -car vs. transformer somewhere) and it was nice to get away from the rat race. If you go there not expecting 5 star meals and service you'll be pleased. We paid $1800 all in for 3 days...we were expecting a little more bang for our buck. The staff try hard but the place needs a cash infusion to be a great resort.

Nice location for a great cottage weekend

This place is absolutely wonderful. Tons of space, beautiful scenery, and such a pleasure to stay at!
